In this section:

Energy and carbon management helps reduce an organization’s controllable costs – that’s the main reason for doing it.

Secondly, an energy efficient site is usually running smoothly, therefore other operating costs are also likely to be under control. Attention to system or process optimization often generates good, knock-on savings in raw materials, O&M costs, machinery lifetime, etc. One can draw an analogy with a car’s performance; if the fuel consumption is surprisingly high, the chances are that something is not right with the vehicle.

Auditable energy, production/ activity and CO2 emission data are also pre-requisites of good energy management, as well as necessary for achieving the ISO14001 and ISO50001 standards – covered in greater detail in “Carbon Accounting and Footprints”.
